Pieces from Wool and Water are represented at the Fiber Arts Show currently on exhibit at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, there through August 9th. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 1-5pm. Come have a look!

EcoArts Festival

Paddle with a Scientist on Lake Colby
Dr. Chelsea Smith, Senior Research Scientist at AWI, will share about nutrient loading and the science behind Harmful Algal Blooms in lakes throughout our region. Adirondack Lakes & Trails Outfitters will be providing tandem kayaks and a licensed guide on the beautiful waters of Lake Colby in Saranac Lake. All skill levels and curious minds are encouraged to attend. Meet at the Lake Colby boat launch at 10:00am.

Paddle on Heart Lake with ADK and AWI
AWI is teaming up with the Adirondack Mountain Club! Join an ADK Naturalist and Dr. Chelsea Smith, an Adirondack Watershed Institute Senior Research Scientist and Biogeochemist, for a guided canoe paddle around pristine Heart Lake. During the paddle learn about the chemistry of lakes and how nutrient loading can impact the health of a lake's ecosystem. Along the way check on the loon raft and see how many salamanders you can find!

Kids' Art at North Creek Farmer's Market
AWI will be hosting an interactive table where kids can splash around and learn about how to protect our Adirondack waters! This event is free and part of the weekly Farmers' Market that takes place at the Tannery Pond Community Center.

The Wild Center
Visit AWI at The Wild Center on August 8th from 11:00am to 3:00pm and learn how water flows through watersheds with our fun interactive display! We will also have opportunities to learn about invasive species, Harmful Algal Blooms, and what AWI is doing to understand and protect our waters!

Join us during Adirondack Water Week for an introduction and workshop developed from Wool and Water - a collaborative data art project of the Paul Smith's College Adirondack Watershed Institute which uses fiber art to illustrate issues affecting our Adirondack waterways and to inspire their careful stewardship.

Purple Loosestrife Volunteer Pull
Join the Ausable Freshwater Center during Adirondack Water Week for a Purple loosestrife pull. Purple loosestrife is a common invasive plant that harms the health and biodiversity of stream sides in the Adirondacks and other parts of New York.

Friends of Moody Pond 5th Annual Ice Cream Social & Online Auction
During Adirondack Water Week, the non-profit Friends of Moody Pond (FMP) invites everyone to their 5th Annual Ice Cream Social on Moody Pond at 331 Forest Hill Ave, from 4p-7p. This free and family-friendly event celebrates the group’s efforts to eliminate the aquatic invasive Eurasian water milfoil from Moody Pond.

Adirondack Water Week at the Saranac Lake Farmers Market
Join AWI staff at the Plattsburgh farmers market to learn more about water quality and aquatic invasive species. AWI staff will have information about opportunities to get involved to protect your watershed.

Wildlife in Our Watersheds
Join AWI Education staff at Fish Creek Campground for a family focused program on Adirondack wildlife. Learn about the species that call our watersheds home, and what you can do to protect them! This program will take place at Fish Creek campground, in the Ampitheater.

Hands on Fly Fishing with Adirondack TrOutfitters
Cast a line with Adirondack TrOutfitters at The Wild Center’s Adirondack Water Week Fly Fishing Workshop. With equipment provided, participants of all ages and experience levels can learn the basics of fly fishing, and test their skills with guests Ryan Baker and Jon Herman of Adirondack TrOutfitters guide service. Drop in any time between 11am and 3pm outside by Greenleaf Pond and the Animal Viewing Area.

Honoring the Voice of Water
During Adirondack Water Week, organizers and storytellers from Talking Rivers will host a workshop/circular conversation, in which they will invite participants to explore how human beings can speak with and alongside Water and all their relatives.

Mirror Lake Watershed Association Open House
As part of Adirondack Water Week, the MLWA is celebrating with an Open House to highlight the importance of keeping Mirror Lake free of invasive species. AWI Chief Scientist, Dr. Brendan Wiltse will share information on AIS spread prevention efforts.

Sips & Science: Updates on Road Salt in Mirror Lake
Please join staff and friends at Sips & Science during the 5th Annual Adirondack Water Week, this year celebrating the Champlain-Adirondack Biosphere region. During this event, AWI, The Ausable Freshwater Center, AdkAction, and the Mirror Lake Association will provide updates on road salt in Mirror Lake. Additionally, we will be recognizing an organization that has achieved notable work in protecting clean water.

Canoe the Raquette River
During Adirondack Water Week, spend a relaxing afternoon on the Raquette River with a NYS Licensed Guide and Wild Center Naturalist. We’ll go over safety and paddling before we embark on an interpretive trip around the Oxbow, a unique, natural formation found in rivers around the world. Catch a glimpse of native wildlife and learn about the natural history of the Adirondacks. This trip is geared to all paddling skill levels.
Raquette River Roll + Fen Trail
The Wild Center is introducing a brand new experience where you and your young explorers can engage with nature in an exciting new way. It’s called a Ball Run, and it’s an elevated track where you release special wooden balls and watch gravity do its thing. A number of these ball run stations have been placed along the beautiful Fen Trail—also new to The Wild Center this summer.

Adirondack Waterfest serves as the kick-off event for Adirondack Water Week! At Adirondack Waterfest you can find fun for the whole family, including games, activities, and water themed information. What began as a family tradition has evolved into a widespread clean-up event dubbed Maintain the Chain. The event not only focuses on maintaining the beauty of the Fulton Chain of Lakes but the entire Adirondack Park, as well.
