Welcome to the Adirondack Watershed Institute Boat Inspection Database
This user interface combines data gathered by boat inspectors stationed across the Adirondacks from the period of 2000 to the present. It is crucial for users to note that the scope of the data we were able to gather over the years was not consistent, and followed available funding and emerging resource priorities. Generally speaking, the data since 2011 (the advent of Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding) is the most comprehensive in terms of numbers of waterbodies with stewards present and the specificity with which we captured data regarding organisms removed from watercraft. The first several years of our program focused primarily on user education and removal of any visible organism from watercraft encountered at a small but growing number of boat launches. We did not quantify organisms removed during these early years. As the threat of aquatic invasive species became increasingly apparent, and as our program expertise developed, we gathered more and more specific data on the types of organisms removed. starting in 2005, we began tallying visible organisms removed. In 2008, we began identifying visible organisms removed by species. We have increased specificity in species identification each year.
