Adirondack Watershed Institute in the Times Union: Adirondack Watershed Institute strives to protect aquatic health

PAUL SMITHS — If you have ever enjoyed a pristine lake, pond or stream in the Adirondacks, you can thank the Adirondack Watershed Institute at Paul Smith’s College. 
For 36 years, the Franklin County nonprofit has monitored a network of 94 lakes and 25 streams in the 6 million-acre park with an eye toward protecting their health and the well-being of the people, plants and animals that depend on them.
“Our mission is clean water,” Executive Director Maureen Cunningham said. “Clean water is a concern, literally, everywhere throughout the world. Clean water is not a given anymore and that is why our work is so critical.”
