The USL Environmental Monitoring Platform data sonde (blue cylinder) is connected to a 30 meter communications cable (orange cable) mounted to a winch (black drum in background). The interior also contains hardware and software that collects and stores data from the various sensors, and a cellular modem and antenna to transmit data to Paul Smith's College. The entire system is powered by batteries that are recharged with solar panels mounted to the yellow housing.
